Introduction
Brahmatal trek offers panoramic views of the great Himalayas. You will also see Nanda Ghunt and Trishul Hill. Mythology says that Lord Brahma ji meditated here for many years hence this place got its name. The hiking trail of this hike passes through many wonderful valleys, villages, oak forests, spontaneous streams, etc.
During the winter season, the whole area is covered with white light snow. The yellow and reddish hue of the white ice will surely blow your mind during sunset. Hikers do not need any experience for this trek and it is also an easy or moderate trek. The trek has to be started from Lohajung. It is a very popular winter trekking destination in India and also popular for trekking in high lakes. The walk is 15 kilometers in total. Kathgodam is the nearest railway station which is 23 km away. Pantnagar Airport is the nearest airport which is 267 kilometers from here.
No road leads to Brahmatal. The only accommodation here is a campsite. You can transport the tent yourself or rent it from a tour operator. The distance of 5-6 kilometers should be covered in 5-50 minutes in a relaxed manner.
Best time:
The best time to do this trip is from January to May and from October to December. In July, the highest temperature is 20 to 22 degrees and the lowest temperature is 12 to 13 degrees. Snow can be experienced from mid-December to mid-March.
Day 1:
From Rishikesh you have to drive to Lohajung, the starting point of the trek. Goddess Parvati had a “war” or “jung” with the demon “Lohsur” from which the village got its name. Lohajung is located in Chamoli district. It is located at a distance of 250 km from Rishikesh. On the way you can experience the beautiful Garhwal region, you can also experience the amazing confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini at Rudraprayag and confluence of Mandakini and Pindar river at Karnaprayag. Lohajung is located in a high area. If you reach this village, you must stay here. It is really cold at night in this area.
Day 2:
This is the first day of Brahma’s journey. On this day, you should walk to the Bekaltal campsite. It is 6 kilometers from Lohajung to Bekltal. This is a walk through the woods. First you have to reach Mandoli village. Here you can experience the Kali Valley. From there, the trail goes through dense spruce, oak and rhododendron forest. After this place, a 2-hour walk leads to the next place. From there you have to cross the bridge and reach Begum. Gujren is another 20-minute walk from there. You can camp here. Bekaltal is located a few kilometers from here. After arriving at Bekaltal campsite, you will notice that La tal is 15-16 minutes away from the campsite. It is a beautiful lake with oak trees. The color of the water is brown due to organic matter. You can enjoy a wonderful sunset at this place. After enjoying the moment, it is necessary to return to the campsite.
Day 3
From Bekaltal 7 km walk to Brahmatal. First you reach the top of Talind. From this point the trail leads to the Brahmatal camp.
You must start your day with a wonderful sunrise in Bekaltal. This route gradually descends to Brahmatal. The route runs through rhododendron trees and oak. From here you have to walk to the top of the talind. From here you can see the view of Trishul and Nanda Ghunt. From Talindi Top you have to drive to Jhandi Top. Jhan point is the highest point. From here you have to trek to Brahmatal campsite. Brahmatal is 500 meters from the campsite. You can have fun at the lake. During the winter season, the temperature drops to -8 degrees at night.
Day 4:
Today we have to start with a steep climb. After a 20-minute walk, you will reach Brahmatal Lake. The beauty of the lake is touching. You can also explore Kamet, Trishul, Neelkanth, Hathi Ghoda etc from here. With Frem here, you need to move to the Daldum campsite. You must stay at the Daldum campsite.
Day 5:
Today you have to descend to Lohajung which is at a height of 7700 feet. The total length of the distance, which takes 3-3.5 hours to cover. You must stay here for the night.
Day 6:
This is the last day of your trip. Today you will drive back to Rishikesh. This distance is 210 kilometers. It can be covered in 10-11 hours.
